Welcome To Smashing Mosaics

Mosaic Studio

Hello and welcome to Smashing Mosaics.

My name is Jude Raftis and I have a passion for turning just about anything into mosaic art.

At left, you can see a photo of the studio from which I work. It's in my backyard and has great views out onto the bush which I find quite inspiring.

The door is adorned with two mosaic panels. I had space left for them specially when building the studio. For a close up of these, you can see them in my work under Mosaic Panels.

Mosaics are a great form of art and I find them very relaxing and yet also challenging. If you are looking at learning how to mosaic, then it really is only limited by your own imagination. Suitable mediums are everywhere from a piece of suitable board to the wall of a building and everything inbetween. If something has structural form, then it can generally used for the application of a mosaic. All you need to do is find out how to mosaic on the particular medium.

Apart from my mosaic art, I also do patchwork quilts. So I suppose that in some ways, mosaic art is a "hard" extension of what is my patchwork quilting artwork. Colors are all important, but the medium is different.

mandela1.jpgOne of the beauties of mosaic art is that you can use almost anything as a base medium and you are only limited by your imagination. Obviously there are a few tricks you need to know when doing mosaics such as what mediums you can use successfully and you also need to know about which are the best adhesives for tiles, grouts and sealers.

How To Make A Mosaic

With all this in mind, I am currently writing an ebook to be titled "How To Make A Mosaic" or similar to help aspiring mosaic artists gain this knowledge rapidly on how to mosaic and without going through the trial and error experiences that I went through when learning how to mosaic.

If you have questions about how to mosaic, you can go to my other site, the "How To Mosaic Guide" and email me your questions for inclusion in my forthcoming book. The best twenty questions will receive a free copy of "How To Mosaic".

Although I hate to let go of my work, some of it is for sale and I am also accepting commissions for mosaic pieces. Be sure to have a look at my work on the Mosaics pages.

If you would like a mosaic done for your home or garden or perhaps your business even, why not contact me to discuss your requirement. My details are on the contact page.

Thanks for visiting my site. I hope it will inspire you to get started in the world of mosaics or if you don't wish to do them yourself then I can supply a piece of beautiful art work for you.
